The Aroundtheworld.coop project was born from the idea of Andrea Mancori and Sara Vicari, a couple who turned their passions and skills into a unique life experience: a one-year long journey around the world in search of virtuous and innovative cooperatives that promote sustainable human development and the safeguarding of common goods.
The project is carried out in partnership with the International Alliance of Cooperatives (ICA), in particular thanks to the support of the Coops4Dev program. It started in December 2018 and finished in October 2019. Furthermore, to complete the project an additional cooperative story has been documented in Poland in September 2020 and another cooperative story will be documented in a European country, COVID-19 permitting. So far, a total of 13 cooperative stories have been documented.
We work together with cooperative members to retrace the steps of their own coop story. By combining documentary filmmaking and participatory action research, we share these stories with the rest of the world.
At aroundtheworld.coop, our work has a twofold objective. On one hand, we aim at giving visibility to cooperative stories, showing that, everywhere in the world, doing cooperative business allows communities to pursue economic, environmental and social sustainability.
