Brief description

The Castalia housing coop showed us the important role that coops can play to contribute to building cohesive communities, exerting their action inside the coop, but also outside in their neighborhood.

The name of the cooperative is inspired by an idealistic city of a novel by Herman Hesse, in fact, named Castalia. But this coop is not idealistic at all, it is a concrete example of how collective action can bring effective solutions also to urgent problems like access to housing.

Uruguay is a model in this sense and we hope this story can be of inspiration for many communities around the world!
